*Per label instructions, conduct a jar test with crop protection chemicals or biologicals prior to tank-mixing to confirm compatibility. Use blended UAN solution soon after mixing. Degradation of the NBPT is known to be impacted by pH and temperature. UAN with a pH greater than 7 tends to increase the storage time; a pH of less than 7 will result in more rapid degradation of the active ingredient. Other additives to the UAN may also result in a more acidic solution, thus reducing the storage time.

The best way to protect nitrogen from losses is to keep it in its stable form longer. In a 2018 study, TRIBUNE delivered a 16 bu/ac yield advantage over untreated UAN.1
No matter how or when UAN is applied, it can be just as vulnerable to nitrogen loss as many other forms of nitrogen. In a 2011 study, approximately 25 percent of the urea-nitrogen in untreated UAN was lost to ammonia volatilization 14 days after application. However, when UAN was treated with NBPT, nitrogen loss decreased to approximately 12 percent.2
Pronitridine slows the conversion of ammonium to nitrate and can hold the nitrogen in the ammonium form three times longer than without an inhibitor.3 As shown in the model, at soil temperatures 11 °C, 100 percent of nitrogen applied without an inhibitor would be nitrified in 12 weeks. With Pronitridine, more than 60 percent of the applied nitrogen would remain in the ammonium form after 12 weeks.
