Ranchers Across the Country Are Tapping into the Power of SUPERU

Ranchers are the latest group to take advantage of the unsurpassed protection and efficiency offered by this premium fertilizer, which is helping protect nitrogen investments all across cattle country — leaving ranchers with better yield potential, increased opportunity to maximize their inputs, higher quality feed, greater peace of mind and more time to care for their livestock.

WHAT IS SUPERU?

SUPERU contains urease and nitrification inhibitors to guard nitrogen from volatilization, leaching and denitrification. It has the highest concentration of nitrogen available in a stabilized, urea-based granule and has delivered big results for hay and forage growers across the Midwest and south, from the gulf coast of Texas and Louisiana to the rolling fields of Missouri.

Proven to effectively provide nitrogen to plants while delivering a more consistent performance than treated nitrogen, SUPERU premium fertilizer is a finished, ready-to-use granule with integrated dual-active ingredients. And as a finished urea product, SUPERU can easily be impregnated with herbicide, lending to even more operational efficiencies.

WHAT MAKES SUPERU A STRONG ALTERNATIVE TO AN?

Ammonium nitrate (AN) is often used by ranchers looking to increase their hay and forage yields. But did you know SUPERU can actually outperform AN? It’s true. That’s because SUPERU provides protection both above and below the ground, meaning you get a better defense against nitrogen loss.

A study centered on tall fescue concluded that SUPERU significantly increased yield benefit, as compared to urea and ammonium nitrate.

One study from the University of Missouri reports on the risks of ammonium nitrate and heeds caution when it comes to planning for long-term use of AN as retailers increasingly discontinue supplying AN to growers. While reduction trends of AN as a nitrogen source continue, SUPERU’s local Enid, Oklahoma plant offers high-capacity production and several key storage locations nationwide — so your nitrogen needs are met efficiently and cost-effectively.

PROTECTING NITROGEN FROM SEVERE WEATHER

People who live in the south know the region is prone to heavy rainfall. For example, parts of Louisiana can receive up to 70 inches of precipitation in a year. Anytime there’s a large amount of rain, the chance of below-ground nitrogen loss from leaching and denitrification increases significantly.

SUPERU inhibits the nitrification process, protecting nitrogen from those types of potential losses. In fact, a 2019 study showed that after four weeks, SUPERU fertilizer prevented losses to leaching and denitrification far beyond that of urea alone, surpassing the level of protection by 35-58% in the two sandy soil types tested.

And while not as wet as Louisiana, the Midwest is also at risk from losses due to heavy rains. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration reports that the Midwest set a record for the wettest year in history after the region received more than 46 inches of rain in 2019. SUPERU can help guard against nitrogen loss caused by those heavy rains, allowing you to better sustain grazing areas. Conversely, ranchers working in areas more prone to drought will be happy to know that SUPERU is also effective in dry weather, thanks to its urease inhibitor that protects against volatilization.

For any ranchers dealing with drought conditions, SUPERU can protect you when your fields are suffering from a lack of rain. The University of Missouri study referenced above also showed that 40% of N applied to pastures as urea can be lost due to volatilization if rainfall does not occur within 48 hours of application. SUPERU can help guard against denitrification caused by unexpected dry conditions.

BOOSTING YIELD POTENTIAL AND EFFICIENCY

Ranchers can expect a larger yield advantage in pastureland grasses and hay when they use SUPERU. Because it comes in a premium granular form, it delivers superior handling, allowing for broader and more even spread patterns. In Missouri, where you see a lot of grazing, this can mean a lot of saved effort, freeing you up to spend more time focusing on the livestock while potentially saving you money on feed. You’ll cover more acres in less time, and since SUPERU isn’t sticky or gummy like some products, you get reduced handling time.

Using N-TEGRATION™ Technology to incorporate the dual-active ingredients throughout every granule, you get the power to protect your nitrogen with every application. An Iowa study showed "grass yield, measured in terms of dry forage, cow-days of grazing, or live weight gains of yearling steers, can be increased two to three times or more with adequate N fertilization." This means applying SUPERU to your pastures is not only a simple way to increase your grass yields, but it can also have a positive effect on your herd.

LET SUPERU PROTECT YOUR NITROGEN WHILE YOU FOCUS ON YOUR LIVESTOCK.

The benefits of SUPERU for ranchers and growers are clear. Take the steps to defend your nitrogen from volatilization, leaching and denitrification and you could see a boost in your hay production. By maximizing hay production on your ranch, you could also end up purchasing less feed, all while maximizing your efficiency and getting more time to focus your attention on other aspects of your operation. Learn how easy-to-handle, easy-to-apply SUPERU can transform your operation. Contact your rep today to get started.
